If you’re like me then you enjoy the idea of picking up and going on an adventure at any given moment. Sometimes spontaneity and budget don’t go hand and hand. Sometimes it’s an issue of simply finding the time. The solution for more time freedom I’ll cover later in another post. Today I’m gonna share a few tricks that can work for any weekend getaway but especially one to Louisville and a concert on Fourth Street Live.
Louisville is about 2 hours from me. I suggest finding some place you’ve wanted to explore that’s under 4 hours away (driving one way). When looking to book this trip I knew that there would be a concert going on August 12th and it just so happened to be Chase Rice. Being in no condition to spend lots of extra money, I started looking up cheap hotels. After searching through a series of sites (the usual ones you’d try: hotels.com, Hotwire.com, Expedia.com, and kayak.com) I narrowed it down and found a super reasonable yet still nice hotel within walking distance (save money by walking) to Fourth Street Live.
If you’ve never been to Fourth Street Live in Louisville I highly recommend going. Another way you can experience a great show for FREE is by arriving early. There’s a little bar set up that connects two buildings above Fourth Street. If you go upstairs before 7:00pm you avoid the cover charge. Which equals free concert and free cover to the fun bars upstairs. PBR bar is definitely one worth checking out.
If you’re looking for other things to do while you’re there Louisville has a great zoo with reasonably priced admission. There’s also a few neat microbreweries along the way you could check out in the surrounding areas if that’s something you’re into. Google and Groupon are great tools to use when looking for new fun things to do all while being thrifty.
Other ways to save money when going out. Pack snacks and eat before you head out. If you want to experience new foods or restaurants then find something on the menu to split. Same with checking out a brewery split beer flights. Same great experience at half the cost. There are so many ways you can have spontaneous getaways that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Try camping or just check out discounted hotel rates for a large city nearest you.
Life is so much more fun when you’re living it so remember to make time to play and go on new adventures!
